About The Public Izakaya
We offer nice Japanese food!
Located at 700 Post St, San Francisco, CA 94109, The Public Izakaya operates as a japanese serving San Francisco in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it.
Portion sizes and pricing swing widely across this group, from a $10 lunch bowl to a multi-course tasting menu at an upscale sushi counter, so checking recent reviews and photos is more useful than the price range alone. In San Francisco, dinner reservations for popular izakaya, hot pot and Korean BBQ spots fill up on Friday and Saturday nights, so booking ahead or arriving at opening is worth it. Many restaurants across California run daily lunch specials on weekdays that are not listed on the dinner menu, so it is worth asking. Halal, vegetarian and gluten-free options vary a lot by kitchen; call ahead if you have a dietary restriction rather than assuming the menu will note it.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 4:30 pmβ2 am. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach The Public Izakaya at (415) 714-0733; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, thepublicizakayaca.com.
Its Google rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 467 reviews, a solid but mixed picture; reading the most recent reviews will tell you what to expect.
San Francisco is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Traffic in San Francisco peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

I have gone to this restaurant so many times and this time it was just so good! I got the matcha cheesecake, millionaire tonkotsu ramen, and a drink. I really recommend going there one day.

2 star for the foodβ¦ seaweed salad tastes nasty.. screwers are extremely oily and we couldnβt finish. overall not worth the money

I've been multiple times now and it's a great spot to stop in and grab a good bite to eat. It's usually crowded but never too much of a wait. The food comes out hot and very tasty. I'll definitely be back.

The sushi was very mid. The lemon flavour on the 49er was too strong and overpowering. The Fiery Wagyuβs flavour was far from a traditional ramen flavour, but I really enjoyed it! And thatβs the only reason Iβm giving this place four stars instead of three.

Chose this izakaya as a lot of other restaurants in the area close early. We're from out of town and this place did not disappoint. We ordered several appetizers, got the American wagyu skewers, and everything was amazing. I ordered the NY strip beef steak teppenyaki, they ran out but the manager asked if I wanted American wagyu as a replacement and at no extra charge. He even added a little extra to my plate. If we're ever back in town, we're definitely coming back. 5 stars, and highly recommend
